What it is like
generals.io is strategy stripped to the bone. Everyone starts with a general on a hidden map of squares. Armies grow every turn; you push them out to take land, cities and, eventually, the other player’s general. A match rarely lasts more than a few minutes.
It rewards quick thinking and a bit of nerve, and the simplicity is the appeal: you can learn it in one match and still be getting better after fifty. Private custom games with friends are the best way to play, because you choose the map and nobody new joins halfway through.
Your first go
Play the tutorial, then a custom game against a friend. Expand early, keep an eye on your general and do not send every army out at once.
A good place to stop
Because a match is over so fast, one more always seems harmless. Choose a number of matches, three is plenty, and stop after a loss rather than reaching for a rematch.
Before you click
Anonymous players can join matches but cannot send messages. The Supporter plan is cosmetic and gives no advantage in play.
