Murdle: our notes

A daily logic mystery: who did it, with what, where and why.

Play Murdle on its own site

What it is like

Murdle is a logic grid puzzle dressed as a country-house mystery. Each day you get a short list of suspects, places and objects, a handful of clues and a grid to fill in. Tick and cross your way through what must be true, and the answer falls out: who, with what, where and, in the harder puzzles, why.

It is a lovely way to use a quiet quarter of an hour. The clues are written with a dry sense of humour, the difficulty rises gently through the week, and a short tutorial explains the grid if you have never used one. The tone is a light, cartoon whodunnit, nothing graphic.

Your first go

Do the tutorial first, then the daily mini. Fill the grid as you go rather than holding clues in your head; crossing out what cannot be true is most of the work.

A good place to stop

There is one main puzzle a day, so the end is built in. When you have named the culprit, close the tab. If you enjoyed it, it will be there tomorrow.

Before you click

The site carries adverts. Books of puzzles are sold separately; the daily puzzle is free.
